In an electric dry shaver comprising a movable cutter reciprocable relatively to a stationary cutter and a cutter drive member in driving engagement with cutter operating means provided at one end of the rotatable drive shaft of a motor, the cutter drive member has a first movable surface provided with a cutter actuating arm engaging the movable cutter and movable upon operation of the cutter operating means to reciprocate the movable cutter and has a second movable surface connected in driving relationship with the cutter operating means and movable thereby in a direction opposite to that of the first surface. The cutter drive member shown comprises three surfaces 55, 56 and 57 each formed on the opposite ends thereof with flexible supporting legs 58 and 59 connected at their extremities by straight edge portions 60 mounted in recessed bearing portions 48 of the wall 24 of the casing 20. A cutter drive arm 61 is provided on each surface 55, 56, 57 and engages the loop portion of a leaf spring 40 which urges movable inner cutter 39 against stationary outer cutter 38. The cutter operating means comprises an eccentric pin 67 which projects from a block 69 to which is connected an eccentric pin 68 formed on the end of the drive shaft 27 of motor 26, the pins 67, 68 being 180 degrees out of phase. The surfaces 55 and 57 are connected by an insert member 65. When the motor 26 is operated, the pin 67 drives the surface 56 and its cutter 39 in one direction while the pin 68 drives the surfaces 55 and 57 and their cutters 39 in the opposite direction. The underside of the surface 56 may be provided with a weighted member. In a modification, the cutter operating means comprises a pair of detachably-mounted pinion gears (101, 102, Figs. 8 to 13) each mounting an eccentric pin (95) and a drive gear (105) meshing with the pinion gears and mounting an eccentric pin (95) which is 180 degrees out of phase with the pins on the pinion gears. Upon operation of the motor (26), the pinion gears drive the outer movable surfaces (85, 87) of the drive member (80) and their associated cutters (39) in one direction and the drive gear drives the inner movable surface (86) of the drive member and its cutter in the opposite direction. In another modification, the drive member (112, Figs. 14 to 18) comprises a strip member (113) and a counterweight member (120) which is disposed below the strip member, one eccentric pin (67) of the cutter operating means being in driving engagement with the strip member and the other eccentric pin (68) being in driving engagment with the counterweight member whereby when the motor (26) is operated, the strip member and the inner cutters are moved in one direction and the counterweight member is moved in the opposite direction. |
