A coupling for connecting, e.g. a rechangeable reservoir 1 with a pressurized recharging feed tank comprises coupling members 2, 4 respectively formed with socket and spigot parts which, as shown, may be screw-threadedly engaged and including valves 3, 5 movable axially of and from seats in the members against the force of associated compression springs 6, 7, the spring 6 being weaker than the spring 7. The member 2 has an abutment 10 adapted to engage the valve 3 and limit axial movement of the valve away from the seat 11 to an extent less than that required to fully compress the spring 6. There are associated with the valves, elements 8, 9 which interengage so that the valve 3 is first displaced from the seat 11 and into engagement with the abutment 10 and thereafter the valve 5 is displaced from the seat thereof to allow fluid under pressure to pass from the tank to the reservoir. As shown, an annular member 16 having a cutting edge 16a which penetrates into the shoulder 10 to produce a fluid seal is formed with a screw-driver slot 17 and a sealing washer 19 provides a seat between the members 2, 4. The valve 3 has grooves 14, 15 which allow fluid to pass the valve, or alternatively one or more ribs or grooves is provided on the shoulder 10 or face 3a of the valve. During uncoupling of the members, the valve 3 being still open, gas escapes from the reservoir through slot 20 in member 4 to prevent excess pressure in the reservoir.</p> |
