1,208,278. Solid pigment compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 30 April, 1968 [12 May, 1967], No. 22186/67. Heading C4A. [Also in Division C3] Solid readily dispersible pigment compositions are prepared by grinding a pigment and a carrier therefor in the absence of water or solvent at a temperature above the melting point of the carrier, which is normally solid at room temperature, and cooling the mixture. "Grinding" is defined as simultaneous impact and shear, and may be effected in a bead mill fitted with a stirrer. Specified carriers include rosin, polymerized rosin and magnesium stearate as well as polyethylene (Example 1), rosin ester (Example 2), polyterpene resin (Example 3), and hydrogenated polyterpene resin (Example 4). The pigment may be organic or inorganic. The mixture may also include tribasic lead sulphate as a stabilizer, and calcium carbonate or silica fillers. |
