A magnetic article has a magnetic layer having magnetized particles disperse d in a natural or synthetic resin binder and an adjacent high-permeability layer having high- permeability particles dispersed in a natural or synthetic resin binder. The magnetic article may be prepared by co-extruding a mixture of magnetizable particles in a binder and high- permeability particles in a binder through a single die to produce an integr al gradient function article having a region of high concentration of magnetizable particles adjacent to one surface of the article and a region of high concentration of the high-permeability particles adjacent to another surface of the article, and magnetizing at least a portion of the magnetizable particles.
