Pressure-sensitive adhesive tape roll consists of a flexible, semi-stiff backing with high elongation and tensile strength, and a thickness of 25-50 microns which is coated with a sticky, tough pressure sensitive adhesive; the backing layer is provided with a practically invisible, uninterrupted series of fine notches along its edges, so that tears can be formed in the edges by hand. The edges are formed by cutting the tape roll from a sheet by means of rotating cutting blades which have finely notched edges.
