<p>Method comprises passing the Zr sand through a heated chamber at 550 degrees to 600 degrees and contacting it with a lye soln. heated to its bpt. and finally calcining the product by heating at 650 degrees C to 900 degrees C. Water vapour product is instantly evacuated from the chamber by a counter current of hot air. The calcined product is washed and dried. Process starts with a sand which does not have to be pulverised, have single injection points for the lye and the sand, lower corrosion, and higher yields of purer hydrated Zr.</p> |
