An output 38 from an automatic transmission (14, fig 1) is connected to an input shaft of an epicyclic gearset in a transfer case (16). The output shaft 38 is driven by a ring gear 160 which is secured through a park gear 162 to the output shaft 38. Park gear 162 is formed with teeth 166 separated by spaces 167 which, when gear selector 181 is in a park position, cooperate with park pawl 168 so that the park gear 162 is fixed and thereby drive shafts (18, 20) and drive wheels (12, 10) are also held against rotation. The transfer case has a first opening and tho automatic transmission has a transmission case with a second opening aligned with the first opening, the output shaft 38 is connected to the input shaft through the first and second openings. Gear selector 181 is connected to the pawl 168 via lever 180, detent lever 176 and a park rod 174 which slides to move cam 198 into and out of engagement with pawl 168 which is pivoted about bolt 196 against the force of spring 170. |
