A vapour-compression unit is driven by an expansion engine supplied with cold vapour from a generator utilising an electrical resistance heating element connected to a H.T. supply. Fans etc., requiring a low voltage supply, are supplied from the H.T. supply via a multiple resistance circuit, part of which forms the heating element in the vapour generator. Thus trains on high tension supplies of 1,000, 1,500 and 3,000 volts do not require expensive, bulky, and possibly unreliable voltage transformers. Constant low voltage power is obtainable. |
