The present invention refers to the control and supervision of one or a plurality of public telephones having a communication interface connected to a central supervision node. Supervising, programming and controlling commands are introduced into the node, thus creating a message according to a communication protocol established between the node and public telephones. Said message is transmitted to public telephones over the following text message platforms: SMS, MMS, or WAP, then it is received by a public telephone and translated according to the communication protocol, the telephone subsequently updating its software based on the information previously received. A public telephone may generate information related to the telephone itself or detect inner flaws, thus generating a message based on a predetermined protocol which will contain the aforementioned information provided that any of the previous cases occur. Once the message is received by the central supervision node it is tr anslated according to a predetermined communication protocol, thereby generating administrative or statistical reports for each telephone from the location where the information was obtained.
