[Also in Division G6] In a method of operating a closed circuit gas turbine plant, a portion of the working fluid is branched off from the gas circuit, is condensed and then returned to the gas circuit without any appreciable pressure change. The plant shown uses CO 2 as the working fluid and the heat source 13 may be a nuclear reactor. Working fluid enters the compressor 1 at inlet 2 and is compressed therein. A portion, such as one-half of the working fluid is taken off at point 4 where the pressure is 73 ata and temperature 80‹ C., this portion being passed to a condenser 5 where it is condensed for example by water, the conditions at point 6 being 70 ata and 28‹ C. The condensed fluid is then supplied by pump 7 back into the compressor at point 8, the conditions being 80 ata and 33‹ C., where it re-combines with the gaseous portion. The mixture is further compressed, the conditions at the outlet 10 being 250 ata and 127‹C. The fluid is then pre-heated in heat exchanger 11 by turbine exhaust fluid, the conditions at the heat exchanger outlet 12 being 240 ata and 282‹ C. The working fluid is then heated in the reactor 12 the conditions at the outlet being 230 ata and 560‹ C. at which it enters the turbine 15. After expansion in the turbine the working fluid is 43 ata and 370‹ C and after passing through the heat exchanger 11 the conditions are 41 ata and 140‹ C. The working fluid then passes to pre-cooler 19 where it is cooled before returning to the inlet 2 of the compressor at 40 ata and 80‹ C. The turbine drives the compressor also a useful load in the form of a generator 3. The plant has a power of 30 MW and the rate of flow of working fluid is 3 metric tons per second. In Fig. 3 in place of the pump 7, an ejector 21 is utilized to return the condensed fluid to the compressor which is in two parts 1a, 1b, the fraction of working fluid which does not pass to the condenser 5 being utilized as the motive fluid of the ejector, the proportions being variable by means of valves 23, 25.
