Method and system control for setting up an IP telephony connection

Method involves establishing connection between calling terminal (1a) and destination terminal by connecting calling terminal to first gateway (5a), verifying spare traffic-handling capacities in first gateway and then connecting the first gateway to the destination terminal (1b). The first gateway is selected by calling terminal from several gateways (5) using a list of IP addresses. An independent claim is also included for the system control in a branch exchange for setting up an IP telephony connection between the calling terminal and destination terminal.
