An engine cooling system with a radiator (12, fig 1) for cooling a liquid coolant for the engine comprising: a bypass (17, fig 1) arranged in parallel with the radiator; a pump to circulate the coolant through the engine, the radiator and the bypass; a thermostatic flow control valve to control the flow between the radiator and the bypass; and a connector piece 35 provided in a top hose 16 for delivering coolant from the engine to the bypass and to the radiator. The connector piece also has a connection 41 to a heater supply line 23. Coolant from the engine can flow to the radiator in a substantially straight line along a through bore 40 in the direction of arrow A while coolant flowing from the engine into the bypass is deviated downwards around a bend (arrow B). An opening 42 for the heater supply line is located on the inside of the bend and is immediately downstream of the intersection of the bypass bore 44 with the through bore. Flow from the engine (13, fig 1) into the heater bore 43 is thus relatively free of entrained air which rises to the top of the through bore and is carried along to the radiator, or through the bypass. Connector piece 35 may be a one-piece K-shaped plastics housing. |
