An ink-jet ink which comprises water, a water-soluble colorant which in a free acid form has a molecular weight of 600 or lower, at least two water-soluble organic solvents, and urea or a urea derivative, characterized in that: (1) the at least two water-soluble organic solvents have a lower vapor pressure at 25°C than water; (2) the water- soluble organic solvents, which satisfy the requirement (1), comprises a water-soluble organic solvent (A) and a water-soluble organic solvent (B), the solubility of the water-soluble colorant in the solvent (A) being higher than the solubility of the water-soluble colorant in water and the solubility of the colorant in the solvent (B) being lower than or equal to the solubility thereof in water; and (3) the difference between the solubility of the water-soluble colorant in the water-soluble organic solvent (A) and that in the water-soluble organic solvent (B) is 10% or more.
