The extension of a bell and spigot pipe joint is limited by radially disposed circularily spaced screw members 19 and a shoulder 18, the joint being sealed by a gasket 12. In one embodiment bell 11 is a cylindrical steel sheet joined to waterproof steel tube 26 of a reinforced concrete pipe section 24, which carries at the other end a spigot equivalent to 10. A resilient sealing ring 12 is placed in recess 13 and the bell pushed over the spigot, ends 22 of bolts 19 being flush with interior surface 14 of the bell and preferably ground smoothly to the same curvature. The bolts are then screwed in, so that extension of the joint is limited by contact with shoulder 18 of spigot ridge 16 to the distance shown by arrow S. Bell 11 may be reinforced by ring 20 where it carries the bolts. |
