[Also in Division F4] A blanket or other flexible member 1 has an internal tube 2 connected to an external, liquid-filled chamber 4, the latter containing a heater 10 and a superposed thermosensitive device 9. Energisation of the heater causes liquid to be supplied to the tube until the liquid level falls below device 9; the latter then reduces or cuts off the energy supply to the heater. As shown, liquid from tube 2 passes to a chamber 5 which is connected by a oneway connection, e.g. a non-return valve 1, to chamber 4, so that as the pressure in the latter falls, due to the deenergisation of the heater, liquid is sucked back into chamber 4 and the cycle subsequently repeated. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the ends of the tube are connected to separate chambers each of which contains a heater and thermosensitive device, so that the liquid passes through the tube alternately in opposite directions. Alternatively, one chamber is used and the opposite end of the tube is closed (Fig. 3, not shown). |
