The membrane-electrode structures are prepared with the application of a coating which improves adhesion between the membrane and frame material. Also, a method is used for improvement of adhesion between the membrane and the gas diffusion electrode without the cellular performance being prejudiced too much. The gas diffusion layer (6) is locally impregnated with a suitable polymer (8). On both sides of the ion-conducting membrane an electrode coating is applied in the active area and an adhesive coating (4) in an area around the active area. Gas diffusion layers (6) are laminated in the active area on both sides of the coated membrane. A frame is laminated around the active area, whereby the frame is provided on both sides of the membrane, producing a membrane-electrode structure. |
