The device comprises a pin (2) extending into a tube (3) and having a central axis (8) in alignment with that of the tube. The distance between the pin and tube is less than the diameter of the ball so that the latter can be clamped inside the tube between the latter and the pin. A driver (1) is used to rotate the pin and/or tube about their central axis in order to heat up the ball due to friction.
