<p>A light wave circuit module wherein it has a function of converting the pitch P1 of a waveguide array so that coupling with the pitch P2 of an active layer or a waveguide part of an optical element is possible, and the optical element can be directly and optically coupled to the waveguide array with low loss. The light wave circuit module comprises a waveguide array composed of m waveguides arranged with a regular pitch P1, an optical element having m active layers or waveguide parts arranged with a pitch P2 narrower than the pitch P1, and a grooved substrate having m or more grooves formed in the surface. Since the pitch P1 narrows toward the active layers or waveguide parts of the optical element, the waveguide array is converged into one line to form a converged portion. The waveguide parts constituting the converged portion are arranged in the grooves and aligned as to face the active layers or waveguide parts. Thus, the waveguides of the waveguide array are optically coupled to the respective active layer or waveguide parts of the optical element.</p> |
