A valve has an electromagnetically operated core 1 biased downwards by a spring 14 so that a disc 6 closes a nozzle 11. The disc is loaded by a spring 7 whose force is transmitted to the disc by a ball 9 having substantially point contact with the disc, the point being substantially on the axis of the nozzle 11. A spherical surface 15 with the same centre as the ball in valve closed position guides the core in a recess 16. A hard layer 5 of synthetic ruby or sapphire faces the soft resilient disc 6 which damps the shock of closing the nozzle. A similar closure is provided at the opposite end of the core. In a modification the ball 9 is replaced by a hollow piston with a hemispherical projection and both sides of the disc are covered with a hard layer.</p> |
