The cooking appliance has an outer casing and a hinge-mounted door (1) closing off a front opening. The door during displacement directed along the side wall (3) of the appliance is moved in the perpendicularly orientated position by a synchronous rolling of at least two toothed pinions (11,12) on at least two horizontal toothed racks (7,8). The two toothed pinions are rigidly connected to a guide axis (10) which can be rotatably mounted via bearings (13,14) and which can coincide with the hinge axis.
