NOVEL PPAR REGULATING AGENT AND METHOD OF SCREENING THE SAME

A highly efficient method of screening drugs for diabetes treatment; and novel compounds for treatment and prevention of PPAR-associated diseases. There is provided a method of identifying a compound capable of regulating peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR), which compound has at least one activity selected from the group consisting of the activity of promoting the insulin secretion of pancreatic ß-cells and the activity of promoting peripheral insulin sensitivity. This method comprises the steps of (A) providing candidate compounds; (B) with respect to the candidate compounds, measuring at least one activity selected from the group consisting of the activity of promoting the insulin secretion of pancreatic ß-cells and the activity of promoting peripheral insulin sensitivity; (C) subjecting the candidate compounds to an assay for measuring the activity of PPAR; and (D) identifying those judged as having an activity in each of the steps (B) and (C) as lead compounds.
