The method involves synchronously engaging sharpening units (14, 14`) and a support unit (20) at a surface of a workpiece. The units (14, 14`, 20) are set in a direction orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the workpiece. The units (14, 14`, 20) and workpiece accomplish a relative movement in the axis direction. Direction of rotation of sharpening wheels (13, 13`) is directed such that the workpiece is pressed against the unit (20). An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for sharpening an undulated workpiece.
