In a drying part of a sheet producing machine, the sheet (12) is transferred in a closed path (starting from the last press nip (14) of the pressing part (16)) over at least one straight or slightly curved zone (18), in the form of an impact stream drying zone and/or transfer foil zone, to a (preferably large) supporting roller (20) with an aligned impact stream drier (22), where the sheet passing over the supporting roller is impacted by a stream of hot air and/or hot steam.
