1,206,192. Treating fluorinated ethylene polymer surfaces. GILFORD INSTRUMENT LABORATORIES Inc. 12 Oct., 1967 [27 Oct., 1966], No. 3405/70. Divided out of 1,206,191. Heading C3P. The wettability of a fluorinated ethylene polymer workpiece surface is increased by reacting it with a solution containing an alkali metal naphthylate, rinsing the surface with water and cleaning the surface with dichlorodifluoromethane. The preferred naphthylate is sodium alpha-napthylate and the preferred polymer is polydichlorodifluoroethylene. Preferably the workpiece is immersed in a solution containing sodium alpha-naphthylate, rinsed in water and the excess water drained therefrom, cleaned in a bath of liquid dichlorodifluoromethane which is being subjected to ultrasonic vibrations and further cleaned by passing dichlorodifluoromethane vapour around it. |
