The cleaning apparatus has a frame (3) which can be driven relative to the solar cells (2) in a drive direction. The apparatus also has an arrangement of cleaning units spaced one after another in the drive direction. The cleaning units are used to first carry out a coarse cleaning of the cells and then at least one fine cleaning process. The first cleaning process may be carried out by means of a shovel and the second by means of brushes.
