An edge replacement type cutting tip (1) and a method of manufacturing the cutting tip. The cutting tip (1) comprises a body (8), a base layer formed on the body (8), and a use state indicating layer formed on the base layer. The body (8) is characterized in that at least one face thereof is formed in a face (2) and the other at least one face is formed in a flank (3), ridges where the face (2) crosses the flank (3) are formed in edge ridge lines (4), the base layer presents a color different from that of the use state indicating layer, and the use state indicating layer is formed on the base layer in the entire surfaces or parts of the surfaces of areas (A2) on the flank (3) excluding areas (A1) vertically extended by a distance of 0.2 to less than 3.0 mm from the edge ridge lines (4).
