A band-width control device keeps an account for each link of a network regarding the bandwidth actually used or the bandwidth still available, and receives from a video application or a service-provider a request for a given bandwidth. It is then evaluated whether the necessary links for fulfilling the request are available and the request is accepted and its booking carried out when sufficient bandwidth is available.
