Combustion conditions for smoking cigarettes or pipes modified by progressive opening as the flame front approaches of air vent flaps in the cigarette paper or in a miniature chimney stack in the pipe bowl, thus increasing oxidation and ventilation and preventing consumption of incompletely burnt tars, nicotine derivatives, etc. Pres. the paper or stack is a laminate two materials of differing coefficients of thermal expansion bonded by a combustible adhesive, pref. incorporating only, C, H and O, (cellulose acetate; starch; sugar). Pref. the paper or stack incorporates an opacifying filler which is volatile at burning temperatures. |
