<p>5-R2-7-R3-H-dibenz b,f azepines carrying a residue-CHR1-COOH in the 2- or 3-position (where R' is is not >3C alkyl, R2 is H or is not >4C alkyl and R3 is H or Cl) and their salts, which have anti-inflammatory, anti-oedema, analgesic and antipyretic activity, are prepd. from corresponding cpds. carrying a residue -CR1A1A2 in the 2- or 3-position (where A1 is lower alkoxycarbonyl or CN and A2 is lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkoxalyl, CN or acetyl) by reacting with an alkali hydroxide in organic or organic-aqs. medium or when A2 is not acetyl, with a mineral acid in organic-aqs. medium or, when neither A1 nor A2 is CN, also with an alkali alkanolate in anhydrous medium, when an alkali hydroxide is used, any dicarboxylic acid alkali salt initially obtained is converted into the free acid and heated.</p> |
