A carbon dioxide sensor (1) has a substrate (10) containing a solid electrolyte. A detecting electrode (20) and a reference electrode (30) are both provided on the same principal surface (12) of the substrate (10). A glass layer (40) is provided on at least part of the surface of the substrate (10) and the reference electrode.The glass layer (40) contains boron, phosphorus, zinc, or titanium.
