A valve comprises a closure member 4, Fig. 2, actuated by a screw-threaded spindle 2 cooperating with a bore 11 in the valve body and having an operating member 3 non-rotatably secured to one end but free to move axially with respect thereto, the operating member having an extension 17 which surrounds the spindle, which may be deformed elastically in the radial direction and which carries projections 19 to fit into a circular groove in the valve body to locate the operating member axially while leaving it free to rotate. The extension 17 is provided with longitudinal slits to form a plurality of resilient tongues and with internal ribs 20 to engage a fluted portion 10 of the spindle which has a shoulder 21 to restrict its upward movement. A flared portion 15 on the housing engages the projections 19 to contract the resilient tongues when the member 3, which may be of plastic material, is pressed into assembled relation with the body. The projections 19 may have an oblique upper edge to permit the operating member to be pulled axially upwards after an enlarged portion 8 of the spindle has been disengaged from the tongues. In Pig. 9, the projections 27 are directed inwardly to engage an external groove 26 on the valve body 1 and the upward movement of the spindle is limited by engagement of its upper face 28 with the lower side of the operating member 3. |
