Headings D1P and D1R. [Also in Division C3] A porous (poromeric) flat material is produced by impregnating a woven or non-woven fabric with a solution and/or an emulsion or dispersion of one or more monomers with at least two polymerisable double bonds or of a mixture of one or more of such monomers and one or more monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, which mixture contains at least 0.01% by weight (based on total monomer content) of the monomer(s) with at least two polymerisable double bonds, subjecting the impregnating monomer composition to complete or partial crystalline solidification, irradiating the solidified mass with actinic, visible light or high energy ionising radiation and, after reliquefying the liquid diluent of the mass, separating off the liquid. A polymer having a fibrous structure is formed in the treated fabric. In Examples the following fabrics are used: non-woven rayon staple, fibreglass, non-woven polyester, non-woven polyhexamethylene adipamide and non-woven cellulose fibre.</p> |
