Framework aluminum is extracted from crystalline zeolitic molecular sieves, using acetylacetone as the extracting agent. Prior to contact with the acetylacetone, the zeolite must be rendered substantially cation-deficient and be at least partially dehydroxylated. Other metal values can be substituted for the framework aluminum by contacting the zeolite either before or after acetylacetone extraction with a metal acetylacetonate. The products are useful hydrocarbon conversion catalysts. |
