It is made possible to objectively and reliably decide whether or not terminals have been suitably inserted in a connector housing without contacting wires or terminals mounted on a connector. Sensor plates (20a, 20b, 30a, 30b) are disposed in the vicinity of the outer walls of the opposed side surfaces of a connector housing (10). An ac test signal is imposed on an insert terminal to the connector (10), whereby the ac test signal from the terminal is detected by the opposed sensor plates (20a, 20b), (30a, 30b), and the mount position on the connector is detected from the relative value of signals detected by the sensor plates. Thus, whether the inserted state of terminals is proper or not can be confirmed.
