The equipment is for the collection and disposal of polyethylene bottles in a responsible manner and involves the use of a shredder, breaking them down into small particles and their storage in a container. The value of the bottles is determined by a barcode on the bottles and paid accordingly. The equipment (1) is positioned next to a glass container (2) and comprises a metal case (3), provided with a throw-in aperture (4) in which a layer of bottles can be introduced. In the case and above the throw-in aperture is a scanner (5), via which a control unit (6) indicates that an object is offered. The control unit then engages a drive in which inclinedly rearwardly running rollers (7) are set in motion, which rotate the object, enabling the scanner to read the strip code, determining the type of bottle being handled. The bottle falls into a container, which has a control unit-operated valve (10), so that where the stripcode cannot be read or the bottle weight differs from that held in the control unit, the bottle is discharged via an appropriate aperture. Where the bottle conforms in every respect it is passed to the shredder (12).
