A linear magnetic piston motor with generator function comprises two plates (1,2) of non-magnetic material (Al or brass) with magnetic coils (9,10) and permanent magnets (11,12) and non-magnetic plates (3,4) and pistons (7a,b). Columns (6,8) lead through the magnets and the pistons through the coils to give vertically moving closed units.
