<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a transition time and to decrease a transition voltage by facilitating transition from splay alignment to band alignment without deteriorating optical characteristics of a liquid crystal in an OCB (optically compensation bend) mode liquid crystal display apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The display apparatus includes a first substrate, a first electrode formed on one surface of the first substrate, a second substrate opposing to one surface of the first substrate, a second electrode formed on one surface of the substrate opposing to one surface of the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the liquid crystal layer includes a splay area S where the liquid crystal molecules are splay-aligned, a vertical alignment area V where the liquid crystal molecules are aligned to be vertical to the first substrate and the second substrate, and a hybrid area H where the liquid crystal molecules are changed from vertical alignment to horizontal alignment or from horizontal alignment to vertical alignment when the liquid crystal molecules are traversed from the first substrate to the second substrate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
