<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable triptycene ring-containing liquid crystalline compound highly compatible with other liquid crystalline compounds, and slight in phase difference or the wavelength dispersion of optical anisotropy, to provide a liquid crystal composition containing the above compound, to provide a polymer excellent in such properties as transparency, mechanical strength, coatability, solubility, degree of crystallinity, shrinkage, water permeability, water absorbability, gas permeability, melting point, glass transition point, clearing point, heat resistance and chemical resistance, and to provide an optically anisotropic molding made from this polymer. <P>SOLUTION: The triptycene ring-containing compound is represented by formula(1) or formula(2)( wherein, A is triptycene-1,4-diyl, 1,4-phenylene or the like, at least one A being triptycene-1,4-diyl; X is a single bond, alkylene or the like; R is a halogen atom, CN, alkyl or the like; Z is a single bond, -COO- or the like; m is an integer of 1-6; and P is a polymerizable group ). The liquid crystal composition containing this compound is provided.
