PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable recording and reproducing device and a recording and reproducing method in which operation of information transfer other than charging can be performed easily using a cradle. SOLUTION: This portable recording and reproducing device has a power source part 35 receiving a DC current from an external power source apparatus C, charging this to an incorporated battery, and supplying to each part, an input part 36 inputting an instruction signal instructing acquisition of contents information from the external power source apparatus, a recording part 25 recording the content information in a recording region, communication parts 33, 37 performing communication with an external device PC to obtain the content information, and a control part 24 performing transfer request to the external device through the communication part when it receives the instruction signal from the input part and controlling so as to obtain the content information, record it in the recording part, further read out it, and reproduce it.
