PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing aluminum oxide powder in which the content of impurities is controlled by a physical technique, and high purity aluminum oxide. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an aluminum oxide powder is characterized by grinding an electrofused alumina in a batch type, classifying the obtained powder, and manufacturing the aluminum oxide powder having different contents of impurities. High purity aluminum oxide can be obtained by grinding into a smaller average particle size and dispensing the powder having a larger average particle size by classification.
