The method involves pre-heating a cooking chamber (6) of a baking oven up to a predetermined retaining temperature, which is set based on the food to be cooked by a control unit (12). The retaining temperature is maintained constant till a preset time period by regulating the chamber temperature. The chamber temperature is regulated and simultaneously the heat supply to the cooking chamber is limited to the next preset time period.
