PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To periodically perform self-diagnosis of operation failure of a disk device, to transmit failure contents of the operation of the disk device to a manufacturer, to download firmware, and to rewrite the firmware of the disk device stored in a flash ROM. SOLUTION: Every time an operation frequency of the disk device is counted prescribed times or every time an operation time of the disk device is clocked for a prescribed time, the disk device is made to preform prescribed operation, presence/absence of the operation failure of the disk device is self-diagnosed, the failure contents of the operation of the disk device are transmitted to the manufacturer via a network, the firmware corresponding to the operation failure of the disk device is downloaded via the network, and the downloaded firmware is written in the flash ROM to rewrite the firmware of the disk device.
