PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston for an internal combustion engine suppressing deformation of a skirt lower end part to an inner surface side even if the maximum combustion pressure rises higher than a conventional engine. SOLUTION: In the piston including a pair of pin boss parts having a pin hole formed on a lower part of a piston head part, a pair of skirt parts on both side of the pin boss part, having the pin boss part and the skirt part connected by a support rib, and including an open hole between the support rib and the piston head part, the minimum height of the support rib in a piston axis direction is 3mm or higher, and the shortest length L of a part of which height of the support rib in the piston axis direction is 0.2×D or less is 0.1×D or more and 0.25×D or less when diameter of the piston head part is defined as D.
