A fuel cell comprising a cathode-electrolyte-anode unit (108) and at least one electrical contact element (110,113) that comprises a plate having many through holes. Preferably the contact elements are fixed, soldered or welded to the fuel cell housing. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell stack as above.
