BLOCK NOISE REDUCTION DEVICE AND IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block noise reduction device for reducing block noise without losing the resolution of images.

SOLUTION: The block noise reduction device comprises a frame correlation determination section 10 for determining the height of correlation of the decoded image signals among frames; a flat region detector 30 for detecting an image region in which the difference in luminance with an adjacent pixel is small from the decoded image signals as a flat region; a high-frequency region detector 40 for detecting an image region including spacial frequency components from the decoded image signals as a high-frequency region; a smoothing processor 60 for smoothing the decoded image signals to a prescribed region; and a processing region setter 50 for setting an image region in which the smoothing processor 60 should smooth the decoded image signals. The processing region setter 50 sets a region that is the flat region of the decoded image signals at a frame having small correlation at least among frames, and is not a high-frequency region as a processed region.
