PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve contamination by abnormal discharging, as pointed out in an electrostatic coating apparatus of an indirect charging system, and provide an electrostatic coating apparatus serving as an electrostatic coating apparatus of a direct charging system when simply applied to an oil coating material. SOLUTION: A main external electrode 13 and an auxiliary external electrode 17 are arranged around the body 4 of a coating machine. A high voltage supplying path 15 supplying a high voltage to the main external electrode 13 is connected to a head member 5 of the body 4 through an additional conductive path 18, and the auxiliary external electrode 17 is connected a space between a first resistance 19 and a second resistance 20 of the additional conductive path 18. When an aqueous coating material is supplied to a rotating spray head 2 through a coating material supplying passage 10, the rotating spray head 2 gets grounded by the aqueous coating material passing through the coating material-supplying passage 10, and the apparatus begins to function as the electrostatic coating apparatus of the indirect charging system.
