The invention relates to a DNA molecule encoding an NADP-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase, to a vector containing at least one copy of the DNA sequence, and to prokaryotic or eukaryotic host cells that are transformed or transfected with said DNA sequence. The invention also relates to the NADP-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase as such, to a method for the production and the use of the alcohol dehydrogenase and to a method for the stereoselective production of secondary alcohols.
