The method involves damping sound signals from sound pressure and sound damping amount is determined from sound pressure levels. The extent of damping is determined by comparing sound pressure before and after by means of a controlling component (12,13). The sound signals are produced by means of a flow acoustic device. An independent claim is also included for the device for accomplishing the method for monitoring exhaust gas section of vehicles.
