<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image coding apparatus and a method thereof for controlling filter processing in coding so as to obtain a decoded image suitable for visual characteristics of people. <P>SOLUTION: The image coding apparatus includes: a decision section (115) for deciding an image pattern of each block when received image data are divided by blocks each comprising a plurality of pixels; a loop filter (120) for applying filter processing to each block in a locally decoded image resulting from locally decoding the received image data; and a control section (118) for controlling the processing of the loop filter on the basis of the image pattern decided by the decision section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
