PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flash lamp device allowing a light emission start voltage used as an index for confirming the performance of an arc tube to be extremely easily measured to confirm its soundness without decomposing the device with the arc tube incorporated therein. SOLUTION: In order to carry out the performance confirmation of the arc tube 2 mounted in this flash lamp device 1 without decomposing the device 1, monitor terminals a1 and a2 capable of monitoring electrode-to-electrode voltages of the arc tube 2 and light-emission timing signal supply terminals b1 and b2 for supplying light-emission timing signals are formed as an external connection connector 8. The light-emission timing signal having a short cycle is supplied from the light-emission timing signal supply terminals b1 and b2 by using a pulse generator 9, the electrode tube voltage of the arc tube 2 at that time is observed by an oscilloscope 10 connected to the monitor terminals a1 and a2; and the monitored voltage immediately before the first light emission can be observed as the light emission start voltage Vs being an index of the performance of the arc tube.
